Unlike most books I read, I knew nothing about this book before reading the First Look. However, having studied Asian American history in college, I am familiar with the historical context. Knowing the historical context, this story feels pretty accurate: picture brides really did exist and often both parties were told lies about the other to make themselves seem more appealing than they actually were. Something I did find strange was how Willow was the only character with an English seeming name. I wonder about the decision around that choice.
