I would recommend this book to YA readers young and old. The story has a promising start and it left me wanting to know how Spencer's journey at his new school and on the soccer team would turn out.
Spencer is a trans boy whose family moved so he could attend a different high school after he was outed at his old school. I appreciate a book about a trans teen that doesn't center in trauma or rejection from family and friends. While they have some missteps, Spencer's parents are largely supportive.
I really enjoyed Spencer's voice which felt authentic and loveable. It's clear that there is some foreshadowing about a romance between Spencer and a new boy he meets at school, Justice. In addition, there is more representation of LGBTQIA kids including a non-binary student. Spencer's brother has autism and I am interested to see what Spencer's relationship with his brother looks like in greater depth. Overall, a really exciting YA novel.
