I am going to be honest. I was very divided going into this book. The main character and romance sounded really interesting even though I did not care about the soccer aspect at all. Overall this book was ok. The main character was a little annoying, but had a sweet relationship. The love interest was flawed but made up for it by the end. The soccer was, as expected, nothing that interested me. Now while I did enjoy the character development and the coming of age aspect there was nothing else that stood out. All of the characters were rather forgettable and the stakes were high, but I never was fully interested in the outcome. Spencer was a little annoying at times and I just did not connect with him or anyone else. I think that this was a quick read and was heartwarming. Other than the LGBTQ+ parts, it was a rather forgettable book that did not go beyond.
