I stumbled upon this book while looking for one to fit a "sports romance" prompt, and I am so happy I did! The main character, Spencer, was very endearing and his story touched on many important topics regarding romance and living life as a trans teen in high school who also plays on the school soccer team. Spencer navigates coming out to his soccer teammates and his crush, Justice, who has an extremely religious family. Spencer faces many adversities regarding both being allowed to play on his soccer team, mainly relating to his birth certificate, as well as a budding romance with his teammate whose family is homophobic. Spencer is also a part of the gay-straight alliance at school which also gives the reader the opportunity to meet more LGBT characters and issues that often face their community at that age. Comparisons to "Love, Simon" are very justified, this book definitely made me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside while providing an interesting sports plot that made me want to keep reading it! Can't wait to see what this author does next.
