At some point while devouring The Paper Wasp in two days I realized that I was just going along on the ride of the author’s mysterious trip. Lauren Acampora’s power with words and descriptions is absolutely fascinating.
The story centers on the somewhat unlikely friendship between two women that had it’s beginnings in childhood. It travels from modest environs of the upper Midwest to the glamour of Hollywood. It examines themes such as the possibility of obsession leading to contempt for the object of the obsession, ruthless ambition, and the line between talent and madness. The dream sequences add to a bit of an unworldly aspect to the book and gave it another dimension. I loved every sentence.
