This book begins on an airplane, where we can already feel the nervous energy along with the characters. We start with Abby, the narrator discussing her inner most thoughts about potentially reconnecting with her old friend. The excerpt leads us to believe the two will reconnect and that Abby will fall in love with the lifestyle of her former best friend Elise.
The writing is descriptive and enchanting, and within the first five pages I was dying to know more. There are hints dropped and short memories shared that draw you in and make you want to keep reading.
Occasionally first person narratives can leave you wanting more, but from what I can tell, this style has worked wonderfully in the case of ‘The Paper Wasp.’
