Emotional Turbulence

The Other Woman by Sandie Jones was a quick read for me. Emily is in a relationship with Adam, whom she loves, but she hates Adam’s mother, Pammie, who seems to return the favor and does everything possible to break up the relationship. In some ways this was hard to read because of Pammie, who’s passive aggressive and makes me want to reach through the pages and slap her. But the thing that challenged me the most was that Adam came across to me as manipulative, controlling and emotionally abusive to Emily and not only does she not realize it, she becomes that much more determined to stay with him to spite his mother. While the ending is an interesting twist, it wasn’t entirely unpredictable to me; I just struggled with why Emily didn’t walk away from two people that belittled and demeaned her.
