I am very fortunate to be able to spend most of my summer weekends at the beach. I wind up with plenty of time to relax and read and I tend to choose books that I think will be fast-paced page flippers. The Other Woman seemed a good choice, and with an August 21st U.S. Publication date, it moved to the top of my TBR pile.
It was a quick read at only 294 pages and I basically read it to the end with only a few short breaks. Emily and Adam are young and in love and Emily is excited when Adam takes her to meet his mother, Pammie. Adam has made it quite clear that he is devoted to Pammie and Emily hopes she can make a good impression. I am certainly no plot spoiler, so let me just say that it seems unlikely that Emily and Pammie will become friends.
I have to say I really didn't like Adam or Emily. She seemed like a smart woman when the book started but quickly changed once Adam entered the picture. To borrow a phrase from a movie I recently saw, I was literally yelling at my book(and Emily) and saying 'Get Out' and away from this family. I never saw how Emily thought Adam was perfect either, based on many of his actions. But, I didn't stop reading and I didn't stop wanting to know how this would end, so far me, it was a 3.5-star book. I did not see the ending coming and not every debut novel can pull that off successfully
I received an Advance Readers' Edition through a Bookish First giveaway.
