The Other Woman" is a story about a mother (Pammie) who will do anything to keep her son (Adam) from marrying the main character (Emily). Pammie resorts to drastic measures in hopes of driving off her future daughter-in-law, and Emily begins to fear for her life.

While the book was definitely a page-turner, Emily was so insufferable and exhausting at times, I was rooting for Pammie - or just about anyone - to murder her. It is impossible to feel sorry for Emily because she makes her own problems. She is mean-spirited, manipulative, and completely self-absorbed. She has zero regard for Adam's feelings and says some very hurtful things about his mother at inappropriate times. There are several scenes where she completely overreacts to what Pammie does (or doesn't do.) One scene involving a baby made me want to shake her up because her hysterics were so over-the-top.

That being said... there are some good messages in the story about egos, one-upping, and the way some women react to perceived competition from other females. Emily will do anything to "win" even if it is to her own detriment at times. She refuses to listen to anyone who tries to warn her, and she doesn't even listen to her own instincts because she doesn't want Pammie to get the upper hand. Emily must be victorious over Pammie at all costs and will ignore all red flags to be so, then whine and play the victim when things don't go her way.

Aside from an annoying main character, the plot was intriguing and kept me reading. I predicted the ending so it wasn't much of a twist for me, but it was still a very entertaining, easy read. A definite must-read if you like thrillers!
