The Other Woman starts off as a chick lit/family dysfunction story, and then escalates to psychological thriller right at the end.
I liked Pammie the evil stepmom–she was just crafty enough to make Emily feel unwelcome, while still being adored by her sons and everyone else. Normally the phrase “the other woman” is applied to one’s mistress, but it is so true that “the other woman” can sometimes be your boyfriend’s mom when you’re dating a mama’s boy! Pammie was the perfect kind of character that you love to hate. Well done, Ms. Jones!
I’m not sure why Emily didn’t run for the hills at the first sign of Adam’s dysfunctional family (I certainly would have), but I was very interested to see how the story would turn out. I was not disappointed!
The pace was extremely quick, with no areas where I started to get bored. With so many options for awesome thrillers out there right now, this is extremely important to me. I listened to the audiobook and finished it in a day.
I’m even more impressed that this was a debut novel. I certainly look forward to seeing what else Sandie Jones comes out with in the future!
