An excellent telling of Merlin and Arthur with lots of modern influences! A great cast of characters with lots of queer representation. Emery Merlin has always had a strong interest in magic but because she is a female she does not receive equal opportunity. When her older (less talented) brother is summoned to the King’s court, she decides to go in his place when he is indisposed from a bad spell. Dressed as a boy and in the King’s court and has access and permission to do everything she’s ever dreamed of. But disguising herself could have terrible consequences if she’s discovered! I love Arthur in this book, especially the way he gets the Sword in the stone. Emery is strong and knows what she wants to do with her life but is also perfectly vulnerable. I hope we see some more female friendships in the next book. This book is hilarious and heartwarming and I cannot wait for more! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
