New Spin on an old Classic
Robyn Schneider opens with smart comedy and if you're not reading close enough you might miss it. The Other Merlin sets a clear angle from the very beginning, one that tells of a boy who is not ready to grow up and a girl who will stop at nothing until she is realized. Emry Merlin appears to possess the skill and knowledge to be a very powerful magician, but she is disregarded because she is female. Emmet Merlin (her twin) is also a magician, though foolish and a bit cavalier.
This novel is for anyone with the talent and desire to be regarded but brushed aside because of a flaw in the system. The dynamic of gender is sure to play a challenging role as Emry tries to hide her identity. It also challenges what it means to carry out a role within society and how our identity shapes us.
