I love medieval folklore. However, most medieval stories are written in old English, and are confusing to understand.

That is not the case with “The Other Merlin.” This book is written like a modern YA story. I appreciate that because it’s so much easier to read and enjoy. You still get the general story of King Arthur (sword in a stone, Lancelot, etc.) but without the headache of trying to interpret a story from hundreds of years ago.

Additionally, what I like so far about the book is the representation in the book. Lancelot being a LGBT group member and “Merlin” being a girl… albeit a girl disguising herself as her brother, but still… a girl!

Additionally, this book involves a meddling grandma, gambling debts and magic. All in all, all my favorite things to make up an exciting story that’ll keep me interested throughout the entirety of the book. I look forward to finishing this book!
