The Only Girl in Town by Ally Condie was a book I was looking forward to reading and I was excited when I received an advanced copy. Even though I was looking forward to this book, I was also worried that it only being focused on a single character would make it boring or that I would miss the dialogue, but I am happy to report that was not the case. July's story is told in a mix of flashbacks, random asides and details of her isolation. It was the perfect way to confuse the reader and to teach them more about her life, her friends, her family and how she thinks. As you read you begin to see the pieces come together and see that there is more to this story than July is telling you, she is the quintessential unreliable narrator. By page 200 I had expectations for how this story would end and I was 100% wrong! Even after reading the last page, I still felt that it couldn't be the end. If you are looking for a straightforward read, then keeping looking, because this book will take you on a long run just to stop abruptly at the falls.
