Right off the bat, I wasn't the biggest fan of the present-tense usuage. Usually, I don't mind it, but something about the short sentences (I am looking at my hands) didn't work for me. It felt like the character had zero ageny, everything was happening around her. Maybe this is the effect that Condie wanted to create, but it wasn't quite doing it for me.
