Okay so I THOUGHT that we were getting a lot of wink wink nudge nudge "look, fellow lesbians, she's one of you" signs. Like, Subaru with an environmentalist sticker? Cross-country runner? And then I realized that the protagonist had a boyfriend and those "signs" were all just written by an oblivious straight person who didn't realize that they gave their protagonist massive gay vibes. Maybe edit it and give her a Hyundai or something. Maybe I'm a fool for knowing who the author was and still assuming there would be a queer protagonist.

Stupid Subaru-related commentary aside, I love the premise of this, I think Ally Condie can consistently throw together an entertaining read, and I like how the format of the beginning really reflects the protagonist's feelings of sudden panic. I appreciate this author's writing style in general, because she's good at conveying a mood without the gratuitous purple prose-y stuff that a lot of people resort to.
