This is a very interesting story line for a book! I was wondering many things for what could have caused everyone to disappear. From maybe she is just dreaming to maybe she has passed on. I say the last one simply because she was seeing a therapist so there is always the possibility that maybe she ended things. But also it seems from flashbacks that she was always aware of there being more to the world…so maybe some kind of magic. Also the date 8/31…? Is it really a date? Is it a time? If it is a date which is what I suspect based off a few things the main character (only character so far really-lol) said…did something happen on that date in a previous year that could have led to everyone disappearing? I would definitely love to read more of this and see where it goes! Very intrigued! Also, the writing had a good flow, easy to read and comprehend.
