I found this First Look very striking! It captures the premise of the entire town disappearing and leaving July behind very well, in a way that creates such an eerie, palpable atmosphere. I also loved the way the setting is described, I can really picture this small town and just how summer feels in it, especially the watering hole. Again, this added to just such a clear atmosphere, which I think really drives a story like this where we're (mostly) just following a single character through a familiar setting.

I did like July as a protagonist and felt like there were some good details about her, like the cross-country and her conversations with her therapist, but at the same time she doesn't really jump off the page right away. Still, I'm sure that's something that would be developed more throughout the book as a whole, and I did like her. I'm definitely super intrigued over all, and I enjoyed this style of writing! It finds a good balance of just the right amount of drama/poeticness where it's striking, but doesn't cross the line into being silly of over-the-top.
