Frustratingly Intriguing
The Only Girl In Town by Ally Conde held my interest, but then became frustrating very quickly. The reader is thrown into a chaotic situation with little understanding of what is happening exactly. Apparently the main character, July, is the only one existing in her hometown. We don’t know why. We don’t know if it is everywhere or just this town. There are therapist interactions mixed in. I don’t mind being confused as to what is happening, but only for so long, and the 56 pages of the First Look, it was already too long. I liked the very short chapters, it made the pages fly by, but I didn’t feel as though I was getting any where. I don’t feel that I am the demographic for this book; maybe young adult readers will feel substantially differently. I’m not sure.
