Liv an Finn had a secret romance in high school, secret because Liv was the gardeners daughter and Finn's fad would never allow it! So Finn had to ask someone else to Long Acre Prom, but Finn and Liv end up in the janitors closet together, until they hear what sounds like a gunshot and Finn's date, Rebecca screams. Finn leaves Liv and draws attention to the closet, so Live gets a gun pointed at her head and Finn gets shot in the shoulder protecting Rebecca. That terrible 2 classmates shot all but 4 of them. Fast forward 12 years later, Finn, Rebecca, Tarynn, and Olivia come together for a reunion of that to do as documentary to raise money for the families who lost children. The girls keep keep in touch, became friends and held each other up through the tough times following the shooting. Finn was a bit of a mystery, but Liv still felt drawn to him.
Finn went threw therapy after the shooting, along with anxiety attacks, and would run until he couldn't stand to get through the trauma of the shooting. As an adult Finn turned to law enforcement and joined the FBI to find the group who supplied the 2 high school shooters with weapons. He had just come from 2 years of undercover work to taslk with the people for the documentary. Even after all this, he still felt drawn to Liv.
I like this book. It just shows that even after such a traumatic event people can be happy and live full lives if they are willing to work at it.
This story is well put together. Even though it as an upsetting subject, such as a school shooting, the book itself is not upsetting or offensive.
This has a budding romance that over comes some terrible obstacles and ends with a HEA.
