I was excited when I read the sample portion of The Ones Who Got Away, so I entered the drawing and, to my surprise, I won a copy!
Unfortunately, just a few chapters in, I realized this wasn't the book for me. I had difficulty connecting with the characters, and that's huge.
I read over 200 books per year, and it's that intangible something that breathes life into the imaginary people in the story that draws me in. I have to feel invested or whatever happens to these characters just doesn't matter.
Liv and Finn were interesting in the sample, but I didn't relate to her and never felt the chemistry with him. The relationship left me disappointed. I wanted more depth, and instead I was left with the surface attraction that holds no appeal.
Gave my copy to my daughter. She may love it!
