An unspecified number of years in the future, it's become clear that the Earth will not remain hospitable for much longer, despite its extensive technological advancements. Kay Mizuhara knows how to save Earth and humankind, but she's distracted. Her sister Cee disappeared 3 months ago and while presumed dead, Kay hasn't been able to grieve her. Meanwhile, Cee is stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean and has been desperately trying to make her way back to Kay.

I loved the world building in this book. Joan He is a fantastic storyteller who knows how to immerse you in a world without letting the details overwhelm. No info dumps! I also really loved the reveal of Kay's solution, as well as the mystery behind Cee. It was a lovely experience, overall. I saw the way it would end coming--and it kind of annoyed me at first, to be honest, but I respect it now. The last lines made me tear up a bit, so that might have something to do with it.
