This is an amazing true story about 9 young women who escaped a German work camp and went back to Paris on a dangerous 10 day escape. They were all under 30 and were part of the French resistance. They had all been arrested by the French police and tortured by the Gestapo. They weren't all friends at the beginning of their trips to various work camps but met on trains and at Ravensbruck. During the final days of the war, they were part of a death march and made a daring escape. The author's aunt was the leader of the group and the author talked to the surviving members and did extensive research. I was extremely impressed by the age of the women and their devotion to help free France from the Germans. They all took incredible chances and survived torture and abuse in the German prisons. In the past we only learned about the bravery of the soldiers during WWII and it's fantastic to find out more about women's bravery to help during the struggle.
