THE NINE tells a story of nine women who escaped Nazi persecution by literally running away together. the book opens with their escape. the author, Gwen Strauss, is a granddaughter of one of the women. her grandmother finally opened up to her in 2002, and Strauss has been working gradually on the book ever since w/ great care & empathy. tbh this is the type of book that I hope to write one day, & I definitely want to read it!
