The last few years have seen an explosion of books written about World War II and the Nazis' planned destruction of Europe and Russia. Most seem to be fiction and many, both fiction and non-fiction, are good. Chapter 1 of The Nine by Gwen Strauss stands above others that I have read of this dismal time in world history. The first chapter is well written and is a definite enticement to read the remainder of the book.

Even though I have read a couple of other books, including The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, about the French Resistance and the women involved in it, after only a few pages of The Nine, I realized there is so much I don't know. I firmly believe that truth is better than fiction and the message that this book provides is so important at this time in our nation.
