This nonfiction narrative is so compelling, it reads like fiction. It goes back and forth between being right there in the historical moment and then pulling out to the author's personal reflections from the present day - also compelling given that the history is her family story. I'm really eager to read the rest of this book! I also always appreciate a list of people/characters in the beginning as well as a map - it's so useful to flip back to reference if needed when reading.
