I love that there has been more and more recognition in literature and the media of how women served their countries during WWII. These stories are so important to acknowledge their sacrifices and I think that it’s so special that the author was able to write her great-aunt’s story and share it with the world. However, the narrative flow of this excerpt was a little disjointed for me and the phrase “rape flowers” in the first paragraph really threw me off.
