I chose this impression because of the cover; it's striking and conveys that the book is about the French resistance. The excerpt hooked me, and I want to know more about Helene and those brave women. I liked how the author showed the effects of Helene's bravery passed down from generation to generation. These women suffered, and the book does a good job showing that they did. The book also illuminated how the war leveled the field for the sexes as Helene commanded men. Sadly, that level field disappeared again after the war, but luckily Helene's contributions to her nation were recognized. If the other chapters detail the women like this excerpt, this is a book I'll have to read.
