The "it's not you...it's me" of books.
Thank you for the advanced copy of this book and the opportunity to write a review. I wanted to like this book so badly. I love the idea of a strong, female, take no prisoners, bad ass spy. The book delivers that very well. The female characters are awesome and are true leaders and amazing women. But, I just couldn't get into it!
For one thing, the whole book seemed to be based on two factions of the soviet government: the GRU and the SVR. These terms are never explained and I could never figure out which character was working for each side and who was aligned with who. I couldn't keep the characters or the plot straight at all. I kept reading it thinking that it would become clear to me. It didn't . I gave up completely around page 250. I think I am just not informed enough about soviet politics to keep up. If this is something that you are interested in and know about, it's probably a good read but it wasn't for me.
