I really want to like this book, political thrillers and spy novels are right up my alley. But LeCarre this definitely is not. Ignoring the apparent typos (I hope are just an issue with this pdf and not the actual draft), the writing just feels far too simplistic. In the first 4 chapters, the author immediately takes a number of major thriller/espionage tropes and throws them at the reader at once. As opposed to the slowly metered exposition that I enjoy about good spy fiction, I felt that the author simply hit me over the head with the narrative. Dialogue and descriptions that I assume were meant to be clever just fell flat for me. That being said, the story has potential and I certainly am prepared to give the next four chapters a fair shot.
