This book played like a movie in my mind. The descriptive writing was like no other. The author draws the reader into the story from the very beginning and the characters are instantly engaging and interesting.

The book goes back and forth between main character, Tallulah's, childhood and her life as an adult. Tallulah grew up in a less than ideal household as her family has a history of mental illness. Tallulah is always trying to be the one to fix things and make life better for herself and her siblings. But one of her attempts to help almost ends in disaster and she finds herself being saved by a handsome stranger named Ross. Ross will turn out to be an important constant in Tallulah's life as she endures tragedy and heartbreak.

Once you start this book, you won't be able to do anything else until you finish. This book tells so many stories and they all fit together perfectly. The emphasis on mental illness and racism is a constant theme in this work of art. This story needs to be told to raise awareness. I look forward to reading the other works of this author.
