Susan Crandall weaves a tale of dysfunction and mental illness in a small Mississippi town in the volatile 1960’s and the impact it has on a family. It’s a coming of age story, a story of survival, a story of family secrets and a story of triumph. A family saga filled with a cast of believable, spot on characters. This book starts slow, but doesn't take long to build into an unputdownable read. The dual storyline of past and present is knit together perfectly. Because this book doesn’t end all tied up in a neat bow, it leaves me hoping that there might be room for a sequel. Crandall is a gifted writer and this book had everything a historical fiction tale needs! A true delight to read!
