The first page grips you, and you get a lot of information from just that one page--the black and white TV gives context, the fact that her brother is on the news for murder, the deep history of the family relationships that haven't let her go despite a long hiatus.

I liked the cover and was instantly attracted to it.

One thing I wish, though, is that the publishers would knock off this nonsense of saying things like "a cross of Glass Castle with Forrest Gump" and "Ordinary Grace with The Secret Life of Bees." While all of those books may have some things in common, they are VERY different books, with different styles, and comparisons such as these lead only to disappointment if your expectations are in a certain direction that doesn't pan out. Let the book speak on its own merits!
