Even in the fist few pages, the beauty of the writing in this book struck me. Through key word choices, the author adeptly sets the scene through tone, language, and captivating descriptions. Having not grown up in the South, I was easily able to slip into the small moments of her childhood that we are given. The beginnings of the exploration of her family's mental illness also drew me in, curious to know more.
