Enchanting prose!

“But there wasn’t a storm.” Griff points to the page.
In the background, I’ve drawn dark swirling clouds and angry
crashing waves. Jagged lightning streaks in the distance.
“No, there wasn’t,” I say. “That came after.”

I like this part a lot - like the storm described, the story hints at something dark and inevitable, coming their way. The dual timeline that is common in historical fiction doesn't get old - it makes you want to know more about the plot and discover the answers.

There's also a little romance, I think - so that's exciting!

As for the cover, I didn't really like it - it doesn't stand out and I wouldn't have picked it up. Which would have been a shame because the prose is enchanting.
