I'm not sure how invested I am in the adult/current timeline characters. Adult Tallulah seems a bit drab, and the cliches surrounding her return to her childhood home were a bit annoying, and Ross, well, I don't know how to feel about him yet, but he seems a bit too... cliche.

But the flashbacks? The kiddos? Griff being protective of lil Lulie (or however the heck you spell it) and the drama/mystery with the tumultuously in LURVE parents? I'm all for that.

Crandall's descriptions are mostly poetic and lively, with a little bit of telling (bits bits bits in this first look, y'all). The oppressive heat and crackling storms make for a great setting to this family drama.
