I would buy this book based solely on the short prologue. I was hooked that fast. The writing is perfection! I immediately felt a connection with the main character. I felt the emotion within the words, saw the world through her eyes. Susan Crandall has a gift with words, using just the right combination to spark all the senses, without giving us an overload of detail.
I rarely read coming of age stories. This one initially intrigued me because it's set in my favorite era to read about. Then I read that prologue, and that was all it took for me to know this is a book I wouldn't want to put down.
