The Meadows is the first book I have read by Stephanie Oakes. It is a sapphic young adult scifi/dystopian novel. I gave it four stars. This book was described to me as a young adult the handmaid's tale. It lived up to that pretty well. This book follows our main character Eleanor, who is accepted to attend life at the Meadows, a place with luminous living and pretty fields. However the meadow has sinister secrets, such as turning people against their natures that are seen as wrong. This begins to raise suspicions in Eleanor, who had kissed a girl and realized that everyone there had done something similar. We also see Eleanor more grown up in society doing the job they've given her while trying to find out what has become of the friend(or lover) that she wronged. I was impressed by the storyline with her own mother and the ways people rebelled.
