This is a tough book to review without giving anything away! I loved the way it portrays the main character's ability to fight back against oppression without launching a massive takeover. Sometimes it can feel daunting to think that one quiet person can't make a difference, but this book would say otherwise. There are multiple timelines, so that can get a little confusing sometimes, especially because it's not perfectly organized by chapter and the chapters themselves are not labeled to indicate whether it's in the past or in the present. However this is a minor complaint. Overall this is a really engrossing read with a highly disturbing plot, but one that raises issues that are very relevant and need to be addressed. The characters are really interesting, in particular seeing all the different ways in which they react to society's message that they are flawed.
