Scary dystopia
The excerpt is fascinating but how easy it would be for our society to become like this is scary. I’ve seen lots of books include a climate change theme recently and this is good. I am fascinated by this book because the author is also showing the reader how messed up things can become without diversity in society. My only criticism of the excerpt is that I thought there was some confusion around the switching timelines.
Update - I wrote my first impression but can’t stop thinking about this excerpt so I changed my rating and think I can deal with the shifting timelines because I really want to read this book whether I win the raffle or not. This book is so much more than “queer YA dystopia”. Through a fictional story, the author has given us a glimpse of a very real threat to our society if this ridiculous “wokism” phobia isn’t called out and extinguished. Thanks to Stephanie Oakes for addressing it. And the book cover is gorgeous!
