Oooo what an eerie beginning. It's kind of ambiguous and just gives us crumbs of world building. Not in an inaccessible way, but in a way that made me keep going for more. I like that there seems to be a time jump with before-and-after which is a trait I enjoy in books as well.

I really love the cover. I have seen it for a while now since it was released but I didn't realize until recently that it is actually a painting kind of; I thought it was flower petals covering her face and not paint smearing, so that's delightfully more creepy now.

I want to continue reading in order to see how the main character's queerness fits in with this clearly cishet dystopian government, and how she will inevitably buck the system and break out of the weird handmaiden-y school. Very excited.
