I generally enjoy historical fiction but this one just wasn’t for me. I did like how the author incorporated real life characters into the story as well as fictional ones. The story started out interesting enough but ended up just dragging. I wasn’t able to slog through to the finish. I did enjoy learning more about this time period in our history but would’ve enjoyed more factual history than just thoughts from the main character. I know some people were bothered by the spiritual inclusions but that honestly did not bother me. Character development was good but at times the number of characters was overwhelming. I also wasn’t a fan of the use of time period slang words. I really do appreciate the advanced copy and was disappointed to not enjoy the book more.
