Didn't Draw Me In
The cover immediately caught my attention. The colors are vibrant, and the image fits the genre well.
Having grown up in Massachusetts, this era has always been a kind of backdrop of our culture. Consequently, I'm drawn to books about this period of history, and so this one intrigued me.
Unfortunately, the excerpt didn't hook me. I found the pacing quite slow. It feels a bit like a history lesson in parts, which I suppose is somewhat necessary for readers who aren't as familiar with the period.
The other problem I had was that the dialogue doesn't ring true for this historical period.
I have no doubt that this book will appeal to many readers. It's just not a good fit for me.
