This is a very well written and interesting read. I enjoyed the atmosphere and I really liked the newness of the plot even though ‘magic school’ is an archaic concept at this point. The main character felt very real and interesting as well as the side characters. I loved loved loved the inclusion of descriptions of things like hair and skin and how it really delves you into feeling like you know this character and her culture. I enjoyed the magic system as well but did have a hard time understanding it and I feel it was incredibly vague at points. The world though was written beautifully and I loved the way that the author was able to make the school feel different and mystical while still pulling fun and awesome elements from similar novels and ideas. I am very excited I got to read this as I feel it also showcases diversity and amazing rep especially for a middle grade read.
