When I tell you, I could not put this book down.
There are always trends in book writing and the latest is magical stories with young black protagonists. Is this in response to the HP controversies, or just folks finally realizing that there can be a place in the fantasy realm for black folks? Whatever it is, I am here for it 100%!!
Clayton does a fabulous job creating a magical new world with exciting characters. The Arcanum Institute sounds like a dream school. However within this dream school she expertly weaves in a story about prejudice and the importance of acceptance. The themes are strong and as powerful as the Ace of Anarchy herself.
Ella Durand is smart, strong, loyal, and brave. She is a great role model for those reading this story. With all that is going on in this world we need more characters (and real life people) like Ella on our side.
