It has a lot of similarities to Harry Potter, but it is missing the charm that came with Harry Potter. Harry Potter is such a classic, that it is hard for anything to compare to it, which is probably why I didn't care for this book. It didn't have that classic charm that HP has. Now, this book wasn't all bad. I thought it was actually an okay story. It just didn't keep my attention. I was bored throughout most of it, so much so that I just kind of skimmed over a lot of it. I do think this story could appeal to some people, particularly people who aren't happy with Harry Potter, or the author, but like the concept of a magic school.

I think I personally would have loved to see a bit more worldbuilding happening, it all seems like it was a bit to easy to create, like no thought went into it. That may not be the case, but that is how it came across in the book. I think some complexity would have helped the world itself. It wasn't one that I felt I could get lost in.

I do think the characters were done well, so that is probably what brought this book up to an okay read. Overall, there are good things and bad things about this book. I'm going to take the middle of the road. I will probably read the next book in the series to see if the worldbuilding changes a little bit.
