First I want to say that this is a middle grade book and I'm in my 40s...so I'll be reviewing it from that mindset.
While this wasn't my favorite book of this type, I most certainly didn't hate it. The cover is top tier. That alone will make you want to check the book out. Diverse cast is also a major plus. The first half (maybe a bit less) dragged a bit for me. The second half definitely picked up more. The world building was okay. All in all the book was okay for me. I will be passing this on down to my 14 year old son to see how how he feels about and then on to my 9 year old daughter. I'm interested to see how our reviews differ. Again...the book wasn't written for me but I can see parts where my kids would love it and be amazed by it. I won't be reading the next in the series. However, if they end up loving it, I will absolutely go and buy them the next installment.
