Incredibly Inclusive and Exciting
Eleven-year-old Ella Durand is the first Conjuror to attend the Arcanum Training Institute, where Marvellers from all around the world come together to practice their cultural and magical arts. Ella discovers that being the first isn't easy, and not all of the Marvellers are welcoming. Just as Ella begins to find her way at the A.T.I., a notorious criminal escapes from prison, supposedly with Conjurors’ help.
This book was phenomenal! It reminded me of Harry Potter, but with more inclusivity. The way that microaggressions and classism is shown throughout the book is very age-appropriate, but still hits home. I found myself rooting for the main character and her friends the entire book. The villain is also very engaging and the reason for her motive is thought-provoking.
I loved how detailed the magic systems are created. I also appreciated the little quiz at the end.
Overall I thought this was an awesome book with multiple layers. I highly recommend it!
