This book takes me back to when I first read the Harry Potter series. The excitement of going to a magical school, learning about a magical world, and even being sorted into "houses", which are known as Paragons in this story. I really enjoyed how the end of the book included a short quiz to see which Paragon you belong to. It was a little difficult to get into the story at first because it's a little hard to follow. Unlike with Harry Potter where Harry had no knowledge of the wizarding world, so we the readers are learning about this magical reader alongside Harry, Ella is familiar with the world of the Marvellers and even grew up knowing she has a type of magic. Ella comes from a family of Conjurors, a different magic than the Marvellers have. Ella is the first Conjuror to attend the Marvellian school Arcanum Training Institute, but she is still knowledgeable about Marvellians, so not everything is explained clearly at first, but we do still get to experience the new school alongside Ella. This is a fun story with magic and adventure, great for all ages!
