When I read the acceptance letter to Hog...I mean... Arcanam Training Institute for Marvelous and Uncanny Endeavors, I knew instantly that this was very similar to Harry Potter mixed with a bit of Sky High (the Marveller school being in the sky and also having powers). There seem to be the same tropes and similar terms but with less oomph. She even has a special birthmark-like mole that makes her special, a Conjuror. Which, apparently, isn't a good thing as stated in the knock-off Daily Prophet on page 13. Unfortunately, I didn't find this 'First Look' very impressive. For kids, it may be nice to have something to read when they finish Harry Potter and want another, very similar, feeling book. For elementary and middle school kids this may be a pretty good book.
